Out and About in Oklahoma City: August 2017

Can you believe the end of summer is close approaching? I know right it flew by! 2018 is just 5 months away and the Oklahoma weather will soon get cold so it’s time to take advantage. August is a great time of year because there’s still long summer night and the kids are getting back to school. If you still need more summer fun we have a list of great events to enjoy!

August 4 Casey Donahew the Texan country star comes to Diamond Ballroom tonight! Join this great concert and sing along to his famous Whiskey Baby tune.

August 4-6 The Fireflight Balloon Fest comes to Shawnee! This fun event features balloon glows, balloon rides, balloon competitions, fishing, a kids’ zone, mini putt, art show, concerts, BMX shows and more. You don’t want to miss the food trucks either!

August 5 OKC Energy FC faces off against Real Monarchs at Taft Stadium. It’s back to school night so kids eat for free and the first 2,000 guests receive an Energy FC fidget spinner. Come out and support your local team and stay for the free food!

August 5 The Oklahoma Craft Beer Summit is the only local conference that serves professional brewers, home brewers and the beer consumers. This social event has 400+ attendees enjoying craft brews together promoting innovation for the Oklahoma brewing industry.

August 7 The Full Moon Bicycle Ride and Run at the Myriad Gardens is complete with various downtown area routes to join. Enjoy a magical night with a full moon and good run/ride and with fellow Oklahomans.

August 8-12 The Lyric Theatre presents “In the Heights” at the Civic Center Music Hall. This Tony award winning musical is about a close-knit neighborhood that carries rhythm and music from generation to generation. You don’t want to miss the chance to catch this music written by the talented Lin Manuel Miranda of Hamilton.

August 11 The OKC Dodgers face Round Rock at Bricktown Ball Park. Come and enjoy a classic American game with the family and watch the Friday fireworks show to celebrate the local team!

August 11-13 Come visit out booth at the Renovation and Landscaping Show at the Cox Convention Center! This unique trade show is perfect for anyone who loves home renovations and wants to learn more about it. We will be there all weekend long giving away great goodies and we have a givewaway for each day of the event. You don’t want to miss out!

August 12 The Summer Concert Series at Frontier City is in full swing. Check out Newsboys and Ryan Stevenson for an uplifting Christian night. The talented bands come all the way from Australia to have a fun time with the crowd.

August 12 Beats and Bites Music & Food Truck Festival comes to Riverwind Casino. Food and music at Oklahoma’s premier casino sounds like a great time to me!

August 19 Visit Edmond’s Heard on Hurd Street Festival to enjoy live music, the best food trucks in the city, pop-up shops, face painting and more! #jointhehurd

August 19 Attend Jake Jam 2017 at Grand Casino! This annual event from the famous country station Jake FM! This event will feature top country starts of the moment like Granger Smith, Michael ray, Franie Ballard, and Kevin Fowler. Don’t forget your cowboy boots!

August 19 Support the local districts of Oklahoma City! West Fest on Western Ave is a free, family-friendly event leading into an evening of concerts, shopping, food trucks, music beer and fun. Come out and support Western District and enjoy its great restaurants and shopping!

August 24-27 The Oklahoma City Dodgers face off against the Omaha Storm Chasers at Bricktown Ballpark. This is a great opportunity to witness the talent in our city and take the kids out for hot dogs and a classic ball game!

August 30 to September 4 Enjoy Labor Day weekend at the Oklahoma Balloon Festival at Los Lakes Amphitheatre and Water Park in Oklahoma City. This family friendly event is free and full of activities. There will be games for kids, live music, food, craft breweries, and hot air balloons filling the Oklahoma sky. A truly unforgettable event!

Well that concludes August Out and About events! You have quite a bit of places to go with this list so there’s no excuse not to enjoy the great events Oklahoma City has going on!
