It’s ALREADY DECEMBER? The most wonderful time of the year has come upon us again! Festive lights, the season of giving, decorating trees, hot chocolate…the list goes on and on! To welcome the new season, we’ve put together some of the most exciting things happening around Oklahoma City this month. Tis the season!

Let’s see what’s going on this month! 

November 25 – January 28, 2018: Devon Ice Rink 

Every year, thousands of Oklahomans tread ice at the Devon Ice Rink. Located in the heart of downtown OKC, this premier attraction is a holiday must for a variety of fun activities! You’re able to have participate in public skating, private parties and different winter events throughout the season!

December 1 – 22: Holiday Pop-Up shops in Midtown

Nothing says “Happy Holidays” like a shopping spree with a craft hot chocolate in hand. Throughout the month of December, you can do just that! Six heated geodesic domes will serve as a merry host for pop-up shops stocked with holiday gifts and signature localities. Holiday shopping has never been so fun!

November 22, 2017 – January 5, 2018: Red Earth Treefest

Oklahoma is as rich in culture as it is in Holiday festivities. Featuring 25 Christmas trees embellished with handmade holiday art, the Red Earth Treefest allows Oklahomans to celebrate the state’s unique Native foundation. This event is strongly recommended and totally free.

November 24, 2017 – January 1, 2018: The Bricktown Holiday Parklet

So, what in the world is a parklet?

Well, in Bricktown, it’s a “temporary pop-up park” that was added to the district in 2016. For the holiday season, the parklet will be garnished with decor that is sure to be the top hangout destination.

It’s the perfect place for the most perfect holiday pictures. Who knows, you might actually run into Bigfoot Kal there taking selfies with strangers! He’s always meeting new people and documenting his adventures.

November 24, 2017 – January 1, 2018: Film Row Lights Display

Home to a surplus of artistic businesses and quirky eateries, the Film Row Lights Display is an enchanting sight to behold. Once the home to major Hollywood film studios including Warner Bros, this thriving OKC neighborhood remains spirited through its animated holiday light display. Make sure to visit the district this season to capture the wealth of beauty and history alike.

December 31, 2017: OKC Arts Council’s Opening Night 2017

Ring in the new year in style! Since 1987, Opening Night has been the place for families and friends to enjoy the performing arts and “open” the New Year in the spirit of community. Downtown Oklahoma City is the setting for a variety bands, fireworks, and an unforgettable  craft and performance area. The event begins with a festive 5k and concludes with the famous firework extravaganza at midnight.

Various dates and times: Lifeshare Winterfest and Snow Tubing

Looking for safe thrill ride for the family? Go snow tubing at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark! This exhilarating event contains the only manmade snow slopes in the region. Want to know the best part? The slopes have been redesigned to make riding down BIGGER and FASTER than ever before!

November 28, 2017 to December 26, 2017: Yoga in the Gardens

Seeking peace and balance in your life? Needing a moment to take a break from the stress of daily living? This is the perfect activity for you! Presented to you by Lisa Woodward of This Land Yoga, this is an all-levels class to challenge new and experienced yogis.

The class occurs weekly on Tuesdays from November 28 – December 26. Members of the Myriad Botanical Gardens only pay $5 for the course while nonmembers pay $10. It’s highly recommended that class participants bring their own yoga mat and some water.

December 9 – 19: The Nutcracker, presented by Devon Energy

A family trip to the Civic Center Music Hall to see The Nutcracker creates special holiday memories that will last a lifetime. The Nutcracker is a beautiful holiday tradition, making it the perfect first ballet for children or adults. Oklahoma City Ballet’s stunning professional dancers are joined by over 100 students from The School of Oklahoma City Ballet alongside the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.

December 8: Star Wars Science Overnight at Science Museum Oklahoma

Get ready for your Jedi training!

The innovative Science Museum of Oklahoma is hosting a Star Wars themed Science Overnight! Visitors get to “investigate the physics of spaceships and lightsabers, the science of carbonite and cryogenics, how today’s robotics compare to astromech droids like R2-D2, and beyond.”

December 15: National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s 23rd Annual Cowboy Christmas Ball

It’s that time of the year again! The 23rd Annual Yuletide Dance features Michael Martin Murphey headlining an evening of entertainment for the entire family. An alcohol-free event with more than enough spirit coming from a bountiful home-cooked dinner, traditional Western songs and dances and an unforgettable visit from Santa.
